Writing your own farewell email from your boss to the rest of the floor feels like writing your own obituary.

My Halloween costume. Which will be not very recognizable which is okay because I won’t be going out, I’ll be sitting in the hyper-decorated apartment with the Boyfriend, who had better rustle a costume up out of something, because we are going to be festive even if we’re not social.

In a blog where I frequently call people my one true love, he is the truest of all.
Ever since I announced I was going as Penelope from The Brothers Bloom for Halloween, the Boyfriend has seriously been considering Bloom. (Because Mark Ruffalo clearly > Adrien Brody.)
Everybody needs a little more Rinko
On the set of The Brothers Bloom, Belgrade.
Music Monday! The Jersey Bar (Unreleased) from The Brothers Bloom
So someone on Rian’s forum enjoyed the last sketch mp3 that I posted from the Bloom sessions and wants to hear more. Today I give you The Jersey Bar. It didn’t make it onto the official soundtrack album, but its in the movie during the scene where Stephen convinces Bloom to do One Last Con in the New Jersey bar. This is basically an amalgamation of two themes (one of Bloom’s and one of Stephen’s) and is one of the few times I let China play the Steinway that we had in the studio. Almost all of the rest of the piano in the score was played on the old upright that we U-hauled over from the house I was renting, and which, in my opinion, sounded WAY better (read: worse!).
Rian Johnson. On the set of The Brothers Bloom, Prague.
Yes. Really. Inexplicably directing a movie in a clown nose.
“Brothers in a One Hat Town (Overture)” by Nathan Johnson, The Brothers Bloom.
This is what the Boyfriend and I have been listening to in order to work recently. It’s a fucking delightful score, with enough contemplation and whimsy and even foreboding at points to propel anyone through a number of papers.

COOLNESS IS THIS MOVIE TAKING TWO LINES TO POINT OUT SOMETHING AN ENTIRE UNDERGRADUATE THESIS MIGHT TRY TO TALK ABOUT.

COOLNESS IS CHARACTERS MISTAKING/BEING AWARE OF THE GENRE THEY’RE IN.

Fun fact that the Boyfriend and I realized while watching Magnolia the other night: Ricky Jay narrates both Magnolia and The Brothers Bloom. Which explains … well, which really just reinforces how excellent both movies are. Ricky Jay ftw.
“Meeting Penelope” by Nathan Johnson (The Brothers Bloom OST)
That’s the best card trick I’ve ever seen.
When I wrote my review of The Brothers Bloom on here, I was fully aware that I could never have done it well enough. Not as well as Stephen could have, anyway.
