Domesticity Log: March 17, 2012 (St. Patrick’s Day Edition!): Chocolate Stout Bundt Cake

One of the best things about St. Patrick’s Day is the baking. Not the drinking. I just like making thing with beer, I guess? And this is a great recipe because it’s by 101 Cookbooks, and it uses different sorts of ingredients that you don’t normally use, and so it’s actually incredibly delicious and light and interesting and different. Reducing the Guinness (of course we used Guinness) really helps concentrate the flavor. 

Domesticity Log: March 17, 2011 (St. Patrick’s Day): Lentil Swiss Chard Stew with Herbed Dumplings and Spinach

I decided to try my hand at dumplings, and put some whole wheat rosemary dumplings in amidst this hearty lentil stew. However, this beast of a stew is a moisture-hog. As in, it just keeps absorbing all the extra liquid I put into it. Still, it’s very savory and fragrant due to the garlic and ginger and rosemary in there.

Domesticity Log: March 16, 2011 (St. Patrick’s Day Edition) : Irish Brown Bread

Hey, you. Yeah, you. You say, “St. Patrick’s Day was yesterday. You missed the ball on this one.” Shut up. No I didn’t. Make this bread, right now. It’s delicious. Rub the ice-cold butter into the flour with your fingers. Possibly don’t even knead the bread correctly, it doesn’t even matter. It will be delicious.
