“Do you promise to let our daughter be fat or skinny or any weight at all? Because we want her to be happy, no matter what. Being obsessed with weight is just too cliché for our daughter. ”

I laughed so hard at this scene that I think the entire theatre felt uncomfortable.
“Instead of coming up with a new show, Ava’s in her office eating her feelings.”
GPOY. I’m bummed we missed the premiere of this. We magically will be getting our cable installed on September 22. (Parks and Rec! Community!) AT LEAST WE BETTER GET IT BY THEN.

Well, I’m pretty sure you aren’t supposed to half-cry your way through the comedy of the summer, but there you have it.
I actually liked this about 50% more than I thought I was going to. Kristen Wiig didn’t really drive me crazy; there were moments when she did her awkward schtick a little too long, but for the most part she was more direct and funny than the characters Lorne Michaels has trapped her in. I mean, clearly the absolute best parts of the movies are the interactions between her and Maya Rudolph. When they were talking about how guys ask for blowjobs, at the beginning? I laughed so loudly the Boyfriend started pretending he didn’t know me. Maya Rudolph has an ease and natural timing that I’ve honestly never seen before. The cop was great; Jon Hamm has a frighteningly good-natured willingness to be an ass; supporting female cast (McCarthy, Byrne, etc.) were all just excellent.
But I have, like, a lot of baggage regarding female friendships, especially childhood ones, especially feeling like you’re getting replaced by your best friend. So I just kind of cried for big chunks of the movie and missed my ex-best friend a little. Not outright cried, but the like, “I could really go all out on this cry” crying you do when you’re also simultaneously aware that balls-out crying at the comedy of the year is a sad thing to have done. “I will not be the girl who sobbed through Bridesmaids” crying. yeah. Have guys ever been tempted to cry at Knocked Up?
For real, Maya Rudolph is better than this Aguilera shit.
